The UFC's biggest star just gave the UFC's biggest competitor, Bellator MMA, some invaluable publicity.

Goddard and McGregor had to be held apart by the fighters and members of the backroom team, we know this is what he's all about but these ugly scenes could have surely been avoided.

Following teammate Charlie Ward's victory over John Redmond, McGregor burst into the octagon to celebrate, tackling Ward to the ground.

Conor McGregor created yet more controversy tonight at Bellator 187 in his hometown of Dublin.

McGregor wasn't a licensed cornerman for the fight so referee Marc Goddard, along with security, approached him, separated him from Ward and put his hands on McGregor's chest in an effort to move him out of the cage.

McGregor eventually left the cage as the chaos simmered down, but immediately after leaving through the cage door, he went for a run around the cage and pumped up the crowd.

Last month, Goddard issued McGregor a formal warning during a UFC Fight Night event in Gdansk, Poland.

Given that McGregor has acted dramatically out of turn and given massive publicity to a competitor, UFC president Dana White's response is well worth looking out for. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, the UFC does to punish McGregor. He made his massively hyped professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather in August.
