Charlie Rose Accused of Sexual Harassment by Eight Women

Journalist Charlie Rose suspended from TV after eight women come forward with sexual harassment allegations

Rose was suspended from the network after The Washington Post published claims from eight women who all worked or wanted to work for his PBS program.

The suspension was also acknowledged Monday on CBS Evening News, where interim anchor Anthony Mason said "the wave of sexual abuse allegations we've been reporting from Hollywood to Washington have now touched CBS News".

PBS, which has aired the show since its 1991 debut, replaced Monday's scheduled edition of Charlie Rose with an episode of Antiques Roadshow.

The move was announced by CBS News President David Rhodes, who called Rose's alleged behavior "extremely disturbing and intolerable".

"In light of yesterday's revelations, PBS has terminated its relationship with Charlie Rose and canceled distribution of his programs". The Post says that all of the women were between the ages of 21 and 37 at the time of their unwanted encounters; had offered "striking commonalities" in their accounts; and all had confided with friends, family and colleagues about the incidents at the time. Many of these women alleged that Rose had touched them inappropriately, placing his hand on their legs and giving them shoulder rubs without their consent.

PBS said later on Tuesday it has terminated its relationship with Rose.

In a statement, Rose apologised and said he was "greatly embarrassed". CBS is also suspending Rose from his position as co-anchor of CBS This Morning.

Another woman, Kyle Godfrey-Ryan, claimed that Rose frequently berated her on the job, only to apologize for his actions while touching her in an inappropriate manner, such as rubbing her thigh or touching the side of one of her breasts.

King and O'Donnell said they have not yet spoken with Rose, but meant to today.

Both King and O'Donnell applauded the courage the women must have had to take steps to speak up about what happened to them.
