But Ryan Coogler is who made Creed the all-timer that it is: a movie full of incredible boxing sequences, superb character beats, and whose distinct blackness seperated it from every other mainstream blockbuster.

Variety reports Stallone broke the news on his Instagram with a photo of himself and Creed star Michael B. Jordan. Stallone will also write and produce the film, with previous director Ryan Coogler remaining on board as an executive producer.

As much as we love the original Rocky films, they had some silly moments (like the robot butler in Rocky IV) that should probably be avoided in Creed 2 and any potential sequels. Coogler wasn't able to return to direct the sequel, but he will remain with the sequel as an executive producer. News for "Creed 2" just seems to leak out in small doses so no doubt more to come...

The first movie, made on a budget of Dollars 40 million, went on to earn USD 173.6 million globally, with Stallone getting nominated for Best Supporting Actor at last year's Academy Awards.

A release date for Creed 2 has not been announced. Stallone has hinted that the narrative could connect to the events of 1985's Rocky IV.

Stallone announced via Instagram late Monday, that he will be directing and producing a sequel to the 2015 boxing hit "Creed", which revitalized the venerable "Rocky" franchise, grossing $174 million worldwide.
