The reports have spanned Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Canada and Greece, all displaying similar symptoms, making the notion that there was simply a single bad batch of devices coming off the production line less likely.
So far, there have been at least six reports in which the iPhone 8 either arrived with a swollen battery or the device's battery was discovered to be swollen after charging. Other iPhone 8 Plus owners have complained about receiving their brand new phone in the same condition. Apple told tech website TechCrunch that it's looking into the matter.

"In the Galaxy Note case, there were probably a couple hundred battery failures of one sort or another, but there were only a handful of fires - so that gives you a sense of the proportion of actual fires".
