LOS ANGELES | Donald Glover won the best comedy actor Emmy Award for "Atlanta", which he created and which carries his distinctive voice, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus was honored Sunday for a sixth time for her role as a self-absorbed politician in the comedy "Veep", named best comedy for the third time. The victory set a new record for the TV vet as she passed Candice Bergen and Don Knotts to score the most wins by a performer for the same role in the same show. It also makes her the only actor or actress to win that many Emmys for the same role. It was her 10th Emmy win overall, including producing credits on "Seinfeld", "Old Christine" and "Veep".
Julia Louis-Dreyfus managed to throw several jabs at President Donald Trump at the 69th Emmys.
Mandel also said the show had considered an impeachment storyline, but were afraid "somebody else might get to it first".
Sketch institution Saturday Night Live took home four Emmys, including best supporting actor for Alec Baldwin, for his portrayal of Donald Trump, and Kate McKinnon, who played Hillary Clinton among others. Waithe became the first black woman to ever win in the category.
