NIA moves against aides of separatist leaders

The National Investigation Agency raided the residence of Hurriyat leader Agha Syed Hassan in central Kashmir’s Budgam district

Srinagar- National Investigative Agency (NIA) on Thursday conducted raids at the residences of two Hurriyat-G leaders in connection with funding case.

The leaders include Shia cleric and politician Agha Syed Hassan al-Mousvi in central Budgam and Ghulam Nabi Sumji in southern Bijbehara towns.

The NIA is probing the militancy and separatist funding in Jammu and Kashmir and has already arrested nine people including seven separatist leaders, Sikh lawyer from Jammu and a leading businessman in the Valley.

"During searches, FD worth over Rs one crore and lots of incriminating material, suspect financial records, property related documents and electronic devices have been seized", said the NIA press release. "Mr. Qayoom is more than 65", reads the letter written by Anwar-ul-Islam Shaheen, joint secretary of the association.

Searches are still on and the suspects are being questioned about the incriminating recoveries made from them. The raids were also conducted on house of Firdous Iqbal Wani of Illahibagh Buchpora, Srinagar; Sajad Syed Khan of Ummarabad Zainakoote HMT Srinagar.

Meanwhile, Chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik have chose to protest and court arrest at the headquarters of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi on Saturday. The houses reportedly belong to LoC traders.

The case was registered on issues of raising, receiving and collecting funds through various illegal means, including hawala channels, for funding such activities.
