EXPRESSA French soldier has been stabbed in Paris

Reports state that the man was not previously known to the police, and has been arrested.

The suspect apparently shouted references to the Islamic State group while attacking the soldier, Reuters reported, citing French media.

The soldier is reported to have tackled his attacker to the ground before he was arrested by armed police, the Independent reports.

French Defense Minister Florence Parly said the number of troops involved in the Sentinelle operation would remain at 7,000 under the plan.

Two women were injured on Friday by an attacker wielding a hammer and shouting Allahu Akbar in the eastern French town of Chalon-sur-Saone in Burgundy, local officials said. In April, a police officer was killed in a shooting on the Champs-Elysées.
