US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has offered reassurances to North Korea that the US does not seek regime change, and wants to have a dialogue.
US-Thai relations have warmed this year, after the election of President Donald Trump. He added that the USA would like a dialogue with North Korea at some point.
Tillerson's remarks came days after the DPRK launched its second intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in a month, following the first being launched on July 4.
United States officials have steadily condemned North Korea's missile tests, which are a violation of worldwide law.
"We do not seek a regime change; we do not seek the collapse of the regime; we do not seek an accelerated reunification of the peninsula; we do not seek an excuse to send our military north of the 38th parallel", Tillerson told reporters Tuesday in Washington DC.
Senate GOP sees no path on health care, despite Trump prods
It also came as the No. 2 Senate Republican leader seemed to suggest that the two parties should try working together on health care.
A war with North Korea would be catastrophic.
However, some North Korea watchers worry that inconsistent and opaque messaging from the United States has hamstrung their position when it comes to North Korea, a country which test-fired two long-range missiles in July that could theoretically reach the USA mainland.
Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, an important member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said a military response to Pyongyang's weapons program is "inevitable if North Korea continues".
US President Donald Trump slammed Warmbier's detention and eventual death as "a total disgrace", pledging to "prevent such tragedies from befalling innocent people at the hands of regimes that do not respect the rule of law or basic human decency". Given that, the United States continues to bank on China.
"We see a growing determination on their part to take steps to try to address the situation seriously", said Thornton. "Our other options, obviously, are not particularly attractive", Mr Tillerson said.
Peace along Indo-China border must for bilateral ties
Sources also claimed the similar number of troops from Chinese side is also deployed at the site. The incident occurred in an area where there is a clear and delimited boundary.
A senior Trump administration official said on Tuesday that Trump was close to a decision on how to respond to what he considers China's unfair trade practices and was considering action that could lead to tariffs or other trade restrictions on Chinese goods.
"China has ways that they can put pressure on and influence the North Korean regime because of this significant economic relationship that no one else has", Mr Tillerson said.
The ban comes at a time of heightened tensions between the United States and North Korea, which has been working to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of hitting the United States. "They do not see it in their interest for North Korea to have nuclear weapons, just as we do not see it in anyone's interest".
However, the recent Chinese-Russian "double freezing" initiative - suggesting that North Korea stops its ballistic missile and nuclear activities while the United States and its allies halt war games in the region - has been rejected by Washington. "Only the North Koreans are to blame for this situation".
Will I be able to see the solar eclipse in Washington?
Looking at the eclipse directly is only safe for the short time that the sun is completely blocked. You can clearly see the temperature drop during totality, then the rise once the sun reappears.
