Why the US issued new travel warnings for Mexico

The U.S Department of State has issued a travel warning to citizens planning on traveling to Mexico, adding Quintana Roo to its list. The advisory came after a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel investigation into the death of a 20-year-old Wisconsin student who blacked out and died in a pool at a resort near Playa del Carmen after drinking. It says shootings have occurred in which innocent bystanders have been injured or killed.

Although crime can happen anywhere, certain states in Mexico are more unsafe than others, according to the Travel Warning.
