Once the update is applied to either PS4 consoles, users will be able to follow anyone's account, which at present is only possible for verified accounts such as games, developers and YouTubers. Now you can do this just for verified accounts of note, such as the official accounts for games, and some individual developers and YouTubers. According to the documentation, this is to "encourage more sharing of content and more interactions". You'll also be able to follow whoever you want without needing a friend request to be verified, and without filling up your friend limit. This means you don't have to fill up your friends list in order to get updates.

Players will have the ability to block users, as well as the option to choose whether or not they want anyone or just existing friends to be able to follow their account. Adult accounts can send requests to other accounts on separate PS4s to join the same family.
