Peace along Indo-China border must for bilateral ties

China issues position document on Indian border troop trespass

Pull back troops from Doklam sector, China to India

"The Indian border troops have flagrantly crossed the mutually-recognized boundary to intrude into the Chinese territory and violated China's territorial sovereignty", the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

But while Beijing's overall stand remained unchanged, the paper detailed China's take on the events leading up to the row on the Doklam, or Donglang, plateau, where the southern end of Tibet meets Bhutan in the east and Sikkim in India in the west.

Amid the India-China standoff in Sikkim over Doka La, heightened Chinese activity has been reported across the border in Himachal Pradesh districts near the area where the neighbouring country is constructing roads, Hindustan Times reported on Wednesday.

"The China-Bhutan boundary issue is one between China and Bhutan". The boundary in the Sikkim Sector has always been delimited by the 1890 Convention, which was signed between then China and Great Britain. Significantly, Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval had met with China's top diplomat last week before the BRICS security meeting.

Taking back on the history books, Chinese foreign minister statement also highlighted statements made by Indian representatives including former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru at several occasions about India-China boundary in Sikkim and a convention between Britain and China. Sources also claimed the similar number of troops from Chinese side is also deployed at the site. China has demanded that India withdraw its troops for dialogue to begin, while New Delhi says that both sides should simultaneously withdraw troops.

Meanwhile, China said it has conveyed its firm stand to India that it must take "concrete actions" by immediately pulling back troops from Doklam in the Sikkim section with "no strings attached" to resolve the current standoff.

The Chinese statement further claimed that it had notified India "in advance" about the construction and that the "Dong Lang area is Chinese territory"."China's road building on its own territory is aimed at improving local transportation, which is completely lawful and legitimate".

The Chinese Foreign Ministry told PTI that during his talks with Doval, Yang also "urged India to respect China's territorial sovereignty, the worldwide law and the basic rules governing global relations and immediately pull back the trespassing India border troops to the Indian side of the boundary with no strings attached and resolve the current incident with concrete actions". The incident occurred in an area where there is a clear and delimited boundary.

India on Wednesday reiterated that peace and tranquility in the border areas is very important for smooth development of bilateral relations with China.
