Taylor Swift is in federal court in Denver for the start of jury selection in her lawsuit against Denver disc jockey David Mueller involving a groping allegation.

Swift and Mueller are not required to be in court for jury selection, which will take two days, but must be present for the rest of the trial.

Swift claims she was sexually assaulted by Mueller when he lifted her skirt and grabbed her bare buttocks while a photo was being taken.

Swift's lawyers called the image "damning" proof that Mueller inappropriately touched her. Mueller argues it shows him trying to jump into the frame.

Both Swift and Mueller are expected to testify during the courtcase. Swift is seeking just $1 (77p), using the trial "an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts".

Mueller's attorney, Gabriel McFarland, disputed Swift's allegations.

In addition to Swift, Mueller named her mother and a member of her team as defendants in the lawsuit.

Swift is expected to take the stand at some point in the case.
