Ohio judge shot in front of Jefferson County courthouse

Abdalla said he had urged the judge to carry a gun.

Bruzzese Jr. was shot about 8 a.m. outside the Jefferson County Courthouse in Steubenville, about 40 miles west of Pittsburgh, Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said.

Ma'Lik Richmond is now on the Youngstown State football team but isn't allowed to play this season, the school said earlier this month in responding to criticism surrounding his participation.

The shooter has not been identified and no motive released. "Our prayers go out to Judge Bruzzese and his family", Jefferson County Commissioner Thomas Graham said.

Bruzzese, 65, hears general and domestic relations cases as one of two judges serving in Jefferson County common pleas court.

The judge was able to talk to others after he was shot, reports said.

Police in the courthouse quickly came to the judge's rescue, including a probation officer who also shot at the suspect. It is unknown how many shots the probation officer fired.

Richmond was struck three times and killed on Monday.

Steubenville City Manager James Mavromatis tells our NBC affiliate WTOV that Bruzzese was talking after being wounded.

Bruzzese was taken by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh-area hospital. Republican governor John Kasich said he was told the judge would survive. During the emotional press conference, he said, "Force will be met with force". "First thing on a Monday morning".

Broncos likely to name Siemian starter
Denver split reps between the two over the first preseason games with Siemian starting the first and Lynch starting the second. Siemian was asked if he had done enough to win the job, and the third-year pro replied: "I think so". "Trevor, he was solid".

The judge was shot in an alleyway by the courthouse. She said Nathaniel Richmond did have a criminal history and was involved in a pending case, but it was unclear if that case had anything to do with the shooting. "This was ambush and attempted murder on our judge". A second person affiliated with the shooter, the driver of a vehicle who was struck by a possible ricochet, isn't considered a suspect since the attacker simply told them "he had to be in court Monday morning".

"He's shooting and shooting", Sherriff Abdalla said at a news conference.

The passenger allegedly told police that he and Richmond had been drinking the night before and that he had only been told that Richmond had to be at court early in the morning.

This is a developing story.
