Iran Parliament ratifies motion to counter US' 'terrorist' acts

Iran's parliament has overwhelmingly voted to increase spending on its ballistic missile program and its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard in response to recent new American sanctions.

The US$520 million (Dh1.91bn) budget for the defence ministry and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' powerful Quds Force, which carries out operations to support the regime in Syria and militias in Iraq and elsewhere, was backed by 240 of the 247 members present in parliament, Iranian media reported.

The Iranian parliament has approved a bill to counter "terrorist and adventurous actions" of the United States in the region.

Iranian lawmakers on Sunday overwhelmingly voted to approve a bill aimed at countering the new USA sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Iran's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee spokesman Seyed Hossein Naghavi Hosseini, while defending the bill, said the bill does not include any measure that would undermine JCPOA in any way; "Iran will never be the first to kill the nuclear deal and take responsibility for its costs", he added.

He went on to say that according to the law, the Iranian administration is obliged to monitor the USA government's anti-Iran measures and counteract them accordingly.
