The ruling AIAMDK faction led by Edappadi K Palanisamy on Thursday passed a resolution, saying that TTV Dinakaran's appointment as deputy general secretary is invalid. A resolution signed by as many as 27 senior functionaries described the appointment of Dinakaran as deputy general secretary of AIADMK as "illegal", and as a result the recent appointment of office-bearers announced by Dinakaran will not be binding on the party. Here, however, the BJP is expecting a fast marriage of the two factions of the ruling AIADMK which has seen a rift following the death of J Jayalalithaa, the supremo of the party and the state's then chief minister, in December previous year. The merger talks were fast-tracked as Dinakaran tried to assert his position with a series of appointments.
With Palaniswami and Paneerselvam arriving in Delhi on Thursday evening to take part in Friday's swearing-in ceremony of new Vice-President elect Venkaiah Naidu, there was speculation as to whether they could have a meeting of sorts to thrash out the sticky points standing in the way of a merger. Though BJP has said it has nothing to do with AIADMK, sources said a senior Sangh ideologue and economist and a Union minister were looking at ways of ending the factional feud in the party. But he was appointed as deputy general secretary. He stepped out of AIADMK with some of the MLAs and promised that he would not joint hands with any other party will die as the best disciple for Amma (Jayalalithaa). Second thing, whatever is being put out in the media, we do not know who is issuing it because VK Sasikala is still the general secretary of the AIADMK and she still enjoys the loyality of all the members. The update is that Palaniswamy and Panneerselvam are said to meet soon.
European Union increases bans on North Korea
President Donald Trump threatened North Korea that it "will be met with fire and fury" if it threatens the U.S. The family of a Canadian pastor released from a North Korean prison said Thursday he is now on his way home.
All these developments incidentally alarmed the BJP, which instructed both the factions to immediately merge.
The resolution was hard-hitting on Dhinakaran as it noted that late Jayalalithaa expelled him from the party in 2011 and his re-induction into the AIADMK in February 2017 was in violation of the party bylaws, since he failed to continue as primary member for five years.

He wondered how the EPS camp could comment against Sasikala when they themselves had furnished an affidavit to the EC, endorsing her appointment as party chief.
Meanwhile, supporters of Dinakaran termed the EPS resolution as an act of "betrayal" and warned him of action.
