Gunmen attack Kenyan Deputy President Ruto's residence

Deputy President William Ruto accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta to campaign in three counties Saturday despite an attack on his Sugoi home.

According to reporters on site, gunshots rented the air for the better part of Saturday (July 29) afternoon as police were reportedly battling the attackers.

Intermittent gunfire could still be heard at the home where more than eight Recce squad officers were leading the security operation.

A GSU officer guarding the residence was shot after the attackers snatched a gun.

The number of attackers, who are said to be armed, was reported as two but their mission remains unclear.

Police and officials from Ruto's office were not available for immediate comment.
