In a newsletter, Atari revealed the first-look of its first console in over 20 years; however, it has remained a bit tight-lipped about the nature of the Ataribox and what goal it will serve in today's competitive, big-money console market. Atari said in an email that their goal is to "create something new, that stays true to our heritage, while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari". The Ataribox simply had a name back then and a teaser video that suggested it could be a vintage console in line with Nintendo's NES Mini.
The NES Mini (soon to be followed by Nintendo's SNES Mini) opened the floodgates for a retro-console revival - reworked versions of classic machines with all the mod-cons you'd require to play today. Atari stated that they are remaining intentionally vague regarding certain Ataribox details as they want to make sure they have time to get everything right and wish to have time to make adjustments based on consumer feedback. Atari, of course, did not spill the beans on every little detail because this console is still a ways off.
Police release sketch of Delphi suspect
Police say the sketch depicts a hat that may not be accurate, and they ask that the public focus on the person's facial features. More than $230,000 is offered in reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer or killers.
The Ataribox is inpsired by classic Atari design elements and will be released in two editions: wood and black/red. So, we can expect to see brand new licensed games for the console, although we doubt that we'll be seeing anything approaching Xbox One X- or PlayStation 4 Pro-level graphics here.
Atari sent the photos to those who signed up for updates on the Ataribox site.
Action deferred on USA healthcare bill after McCain surgery
McCain, 80, who spent six years as a prisoner of war in the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" during the Vietnam War, is the senior U.S. His office said the clot was discovered during an annual physical and removed Friday at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix.
The new design introduces the possibility of new Atari games or even third-party titles. There is also Atari's "Rollercoaster Tycoon" series, with the most recent game having come out last December, "Rollercoaster Tycoon Touch". And while not much is known about the new product yet, it also appears that it might also be adding support for more modern games too.
