GOP shrugs off Comey revelations, sticks with Trump

Trump commits to NATO's Article 5

President Donald Trump refused Friday to say whether his private conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey were taped - a matter at the heart of conflicting accounts of what passed between them - and asserted that nothing in Comey's testimony to the Senate showed collusion with Russian Federation or obstruction of justice.

Trump made the statement on June 9 at a news conference in Washington with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in response to a question about the USA commitment to respecting Article 5 in case of military aggression on NATO's eastern flank. Comey said that Trump asked him specifically whether he could drop the investigation with respect to Flynn, the former national security adviser whom Trump fired for withholding information about his contacts with foreign governments.

But having not mentioned it himself, Trump sowed some doubts among allies and the ensuing controversy prompted Vice President Mike Pence to later express explicit USA support for the charter.

Collins, a member of the Senate intelligence committee, which is investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election, said Comey's motivation "may have been a good one".

According to the New York Times, the court documents show that investigators collaborated with paid informers. Those taken into custody are expected to go before a judge later Wednesday, according to a source.

And he denied that he asked Comey for his loyalty, though he added: "There would be nothing wrong if I did say it".

"I think this partnership not only has to continue, the partnership has to become stronger", he said.

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication.and WOW, Comey is a leaker!".

The president also recirculated another defence of his actions posted on Twitter by Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor emeritus who has advised the Trump team on Middle Eastern policy. Trump asked, though he went on to say such a request wouldn't have been inappropriate.

The CM has also said that the government will take responsibility for the tourists who are stranded in the hilly town. The Darjeeling policy of our chief minister is just a replica of the Kashmir policy adopted by our Prime Minister.

Trump again refused to say if there are tapes of his conversations at the White House.

In his testimony on Thursday, Mr Comey said the memo whose contents he had a friend leak was not classified and therefore not inappropriate to make public.

Finally, Trump promised to reveal whether so-called "tapes" of his conversations with Comey actually exist "over a very short period of time".
