Police Respond to Active Shooter in San Francisco: Police

A UPS employee opens fire at a San Francisco package delivery facility on Wednesday, injuring four and prompting a massive police response in a neighborhood near downtown, officials say.

A San Francisco woman said she was riding a bus to work when she saw a group of workers streaming out of a UPS facility where an employee opened fire. Steve Gaut says he believes the shooter "turned the gun on himself" but did not have additional information.

"Hayward Cook, who described himself as a UPS human resources manager, said he was interviewing people in a conference room when he heard five gunshots". Police asked people in the area to shelter in place.

"We can not provide information as to the identity of persons involved at this time, pending the police investigation".

ABC7 News coverage of multiple shooting at UPS facility in SFA source says this was a single shooter who went into the building during a morning meeting and the suspect may be a disgruntled employee.

A UPS spokesman confirmed that the shooter was a UPS employee, according to Fox News.

Deng watched from his window in the Potrero Hill section of San Francisco as workers fled the building shouting.

One of the victims, a 46-year-old man who drives for UPS, succumbed to his injuries after he was shot multiple times while trying to help others escape.

It came the same day a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers at a congressional baseball practice, wounding U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana and several others.

The situation is ongoing and police said they would alert people when the lockdown has been lifted.

San Francisco Assistant Police Chief Toney Chaplin told reporters that officers found wounded victims and brought them to safety Wednesday. Please continue to avoid the area and shelter in place until we have further information.
