On Friday, we had reported that Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ayub Pandith was lynched to death by a mob in front of Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta in Srinagar during the wee hours of Friday.

On May 9, a 22-year-old army officer from Kulgam was kidnapped from a family wedding and later killed by unidentified militants in south Kashmir's Shopian district.

Witnesses to the violence had said three people were injured after Pandith allegedly began to shoot at them with his pistol as the mob tried to catch him.

Police officials said five persons have been arrested in connection with the case so far.
