NBC defends Kelly's Alex Jones interview

Megyn Kelly fights Alex Jones interview uproar, says she will 'shine a light' on Trump ties

Megyn has not yet publicly addressed the backlash.

"As an advertiser, I'm repulsed that @megynkelly would give a second of airtime to someone who says Sandy Hook and Aurora are hoaxes".

"Sandy Hook Promise can not support the decision by Megyn or NBC to give any form of voice or platform to Alex Jones and have asked Megyn Kelly to step down as our Promise Champion Gala host".

Jones has questioned whether the killing of 26 people in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, was a hoax.

And JPMorgan Chase will pull its local advertisements on NBC News programming until after the interview airs on Sunday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Apple's iPad Pro is closer than ever to replacing your laptop

Despite all the criticism, it appears NBC still plans to air an interview between its newest star, Megyn Kelly, and InfoWars host Alex Jones. He received mainstream attention after he was praised by President Donald Trump.

If this were 20 years ago and Jones were scoring an interview on national television as someone who until then had been peddling his message through mail-order videos and a newsletter, then this aggrievement might make some sense. But Sunday Night in week two enjoyed only half the audience of 60 Minutes, with Kelly's viewers numbering 3.6 million compared with 7.9 million for CBS last Sunday.

As most of my audience is aware, I have interviewed many insane, outlandish, hateful and controversial people over the years on my program, ranging from members of the Westboro Baptist Church to white nationalist, alt-right leader Richard Spencer.

News programs have spent decades trying to assess how to grab headlines and stir up controversy without infuriating advertisers.

Through his radio show and website, InfoWars.com, he continues to insist that the US government was behind 9/11 and the murder of little kids at Sandy Hook never happened. He's gaining in popularity and, perhaps more important, has back-channel communications with the president of the United States, who has been known to espouse some of his theories.

Megyn Kelly's first month at NBC is off to a rocky start.

"They're scared of what we're doing", Jones said.

"I'm a news and politics-engaged individual", Kutz said, "but I don't care to watch interviews with liars of either Putin's or Jones's ilk".

Hockley asked Lack to cancel the interview with Jones, the Texas-based host of "Infowars", who questions whether the worst crime in CT history happened. "As you know, journalists don't get the choice over who has power or influence in our country". The story about Jones is still set to air this weekend on "Sunday Night", despite calls from some politicians, media critics and Sandy Hook families to scrap the segment.
