'America's dad' on trial: Cosby sex assault case in second day

Bill Cosby, center, heads back to the courtroom after a break in his sexual assault trial inside the Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pa., Monday, June 5, 2017. In my head I was trying to get my hands to move or my legs to move but I was frozen. "I wasn't able to fight in any way".

Afterward, Constand said, "I felt really humiliated and I felt really confused".

He is on trial accused of three counts of aggravated indecent assault, which each carry a maximum sentence of 10 years and a $25,000 (£19,000) fine. Using phone records on Tuesday, Agrusa noted that Constand had called at least six different lawyers, starting on the day she first reported the assault to police.

While Cosby's lawyers have always argued that the sex that took place between Constand and Cosby was consensual, Constand's testimony in court on Tuesday paints a very different picture. She testified that their friendship was critical to the school's athletics department where she worked at the time. Prosecutors hope her testimony will show that Cosby had a pattern of assaulting women after befriending them.

When asked by the assistant district attorney why she didn't resist or say something, Constand said, "I wasn't able to".

About 20 minutes after taking them she said she started slurring her words and had trouble with her vision. In 2005, after the assault and a failed criminal investigation, she filed a civil lawsuit against Cosby and settled. Constand is the only plaintiff in the case, but Johnson's story-as with numerous other woman who have accused Cosby-shares remarkable similarities with Constand's, and is being used by the prosecution as evidence of a pattern of behavior.

Constand explained how she became friends with Cosby while working as a manager for the Temple women's basketball team. She said they were introduced through a well-respected donor of Temple University sports. But there she was, making an appearance unexpected by all, perhaps especially by Montgomery County Court Judge Steven T. O'Neill, who would chastise prosecution lawyers at day's end for not giving him forewarning.

"I was mistaken", said Constand, 44, now a massage therapist in Toronto.

"Why Camille is not here is something only Camille can comment on and she has chosen not to do so", Allred said. Another time, she said, he placed his hand on her thigh. "I don't want that".

Andrea Constand emerged from 12 years of silence Tuesday to testify at Cosby's sexual assault trial.

Constand said she did not have the courage at the time to tell her family what had happened, so she just went along with it.

She said Cosby told her, "I thought you had an orgasm". "And so, I just went along with it". "The defense also has phone records that show Constand placing more than 50 calls to Cosby in the months after the alleged incident", the Washington Post reports.

The defense received a boost when the Canadian detective who initially investigated Constand's claim in January 2005 took the stand following Miller. "They'll take the edge off". She said she lost consciousness soon after Cosby pressured her to take a large white pill.

"I felt Mr. Cosby's hand groping my breasts under my shirt".

On Tuesday, Johnson's mother, Pattrice Sewell, bolstered her daughter's story.

Constand claimed Cosby assisted her to the couch and laid her down, and that she doesn't recall passing out.

She asked what they were and whether or not they were herbal and she said Cosby told her, "Put them down". "He said, 'I apologize to Andrea and I apologize to you'".

The trial kicked off yesterday, with Cosby's lawyer Brian McMonagle attempting to present his client as a man who has been framed and telling the jury that "the only thing that is worse than [sexual assault] is the false accusation of sexual assault".
