The White House assembled reporters to go into the Oval Office around the time of the meeting, but when they entered, they found Trump meeting with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

The White House and Kremlin alike have recently described those relations as being at their lowest point since the Cold War.

They weren't authorized to speak publicly on the matter and demanded anonymity.

Chelsea eventually finished 10th in the table as Leicester , 5,000/1 pre-season no-hopers completed a remarkable title triumph. The Blues have a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League after defeating Middlesbrough 3-0 on Monday.

The subpoena came on the same day that Donald Trump hosted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the White House for talks focusing largely on Syria. There had been no plans to immediately broadcast images from the meeting.

The meeting received close attention, coming as it did the day after the president fired FBI director James Comey, who was overseeing an investigation into Trump campaign aides' contacts with the Russians, specially ambassador Kislyak. The US objects to Russian backing for Assad, and has supported some rebel fighting to oust him.

The president himself seemed outwardly untroubled by the furor or the comparison to Nixon, even bringing in former Nixon Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, an old friend, for consultations on Syria and Russian Federation. The meeting was scheduled for 10:30am, as it appears on the White House's daily press schedule.

Lavrov said Trump was seeking "mutually beneficial" and "pragmatic" relations with Russian Federation.

Others who attended the event included Meryl Streep, Martin Scorsese, Harvey Keitel , Michael Douglas, Ben Stiller and Sean Penn. But what he did, and what I do are two very different things, totally, of course.

In case this isn't obvious, given Russia's recent misdeeds, we'd expect to see the White House taking steps to punish Russian Federation, not reward them with diplomatic niceties. Ambassadors often accompany visiting dignitaries to the White House.

Lavrov's visit was announced on Monday. Colin Kahl, who served as former Vice President Joe Biden's national security adviser, wrote on Twitter. Their "reporters" work for the government, including the official photographer allowed into the meeting. "But any breach at all would be catastrophic".

Meetings with Kislyak in December were what led to the dismissal of Trump's first national security adviser Michael Flynn, and to Attorney General Jeff Sessions' recusal from the Russian Federation investigations.

With tensions high after the United States launched a missile strike in Syria, a Russian ally, last month, Trump knew he would have to appear friendly - but not too friendly, since the FBI is investigating whether Trump's campaign might have colluded with Russia to meddle in last year's election. No American press were granted access to the Oval Office for the same meeting.

There is no reality in the comments that a ground operation against Daesh ( ISIS) can only be successful with the YPG. Next week, Erdogan will be able to press the point in person, when he meets Trump at the White House.
