Pride at stake: Upbeat Daredevils meet disjointed RCB

IPL 2017

Pawan Negi has been a bright spot in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s disastrous campaign in Indian Premier League 2017

Despite emerging victorious, disappointment was palpable in Virat Kohli's face as the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain today termed the 10th season of IPL as "forgettable" and a season to "reflect on" for his side. Kohli brought up his fifty, his fourth of the season, off 39 balls and it was another entertaining and important knock from the Indian captain. While inconsistency has been the Delhi Daredevils bane, Royal Challengers Bangalore endured horror run in the landmark 10th edition of the cash-rich T20 extravaganza.

Attention turns to Feroz Shah Kotla for the last game of this year's IPL league stage.

In Pat Cummins, Mohammad Shami and Zaheer Khan, they have a pace attack that ticks all the boxes and can be lethal in any conditions against any batting line-up as they have the flawless mix of pace, precision, and variety.

Negi was RCB's most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 3/10 in two overs. For the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the failure of the destructive force with Kohli, Gayle and De Villiers unable to live up to the expectations, Bangalore will be relying on some firepower by Travis Head and promising youngster Mandeep Singh. It was the change in bowlers that got the breakthroughs with the wickets of Vishnu and Gayle.

Daredevils lost Sanju Samson early, off the innings' second ball, while Karun Nair gave away his wicket after scoring 26 with the help of five boundaries to leave Daredevils at 41 for two in the sixth over.

Kohli got in on the act, effortlessly launching Corey Anderson's first ball for six over long-on with phenomenal timing and clearing the ropes again in a 12th over from Amit Mishra which went for 19 and included another six from Gayle.

Chris Gayle made up for his two consecutive ducks and an overall average season with a 38-ball 48, but fell two short of only his second half-century this IPL. Pant, however, was running out of partners as wickets tumbled at regular intervals post the 15th over. The DD captain though had the last laugh as he threw one wide, and Kohli couldn't control his lofted drive and holed out to long off. Kohli was dismissed for 58 (45 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes) and RCB had slipped to 118-4.

Shami and Mishra then tried their best, swinging their bats for several boundaries and bringing the equation down to 35 off 18 balls.

At the end of the 10th over, Daredevils were 76 or two, needing 86 runs off 60 balls.
