Macron team to announce candidates for June parliamentary election

French President-elect Emmanuel Macron laid the groundwork Monday for his transition to power, announcing a visit to Germany and a name change for his political movement and appearing with his predecessor at a solemn World War II commemoration.

The presidential election left France's traditional parties on the sidelines, with the conservative Republicans and ruling Socialists eliminated in the first round, and Macron facing far-right leader Marine Le Pen in last week's run off.

The list of candidates being announced by the Republic on the Move party on Thursday marks a milestone in Macron's plans to repopulate the National Assembly with new faces and new ideas.

"Every support to the president is welcome", said Jean-Paul Delevoye, the president of the commission in charge of assessing candidates.

The move, retroactive to Saturday, was announced before the first game of a day-night doubleheader against the Houston Astros. Chapman gave up an earned run and three hits in the ninth inning on Friday night against the Astros, a 5-1 loss.

Macron, Hollande's former economy minister, started his own independent movement En Marche ("On The Move") in April past year but has no party structure behind him. "His voice is not insignificant, but his candidacy will be treated as anyone else's".

The poor result triggered a fierce debate within the party on the opportunity of sticking to the left platform defended by Hamon, or to switch back to the more centrist views of Valls and his allies.

The legislative elections will take place on June 11 and June 18. Cazeneuve's government resignation comes as the Constitutional Council confirmed the results of the second round of presidential elections held on May 7, making centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron France's youngest head of state in modern history. If they win a majority of those seats, Macron's job becomes much easier; he selects his own prime minister and works with his party to pass legislation.

If Mr Macron's party performs poorly, he could also be forced to form a coalition government, a regular occurrence in many European countries but far less common in France.
