Amazon to bring opt-in notifications to Alexa

Alexa devices are going to get better at making sure you actually said 'Alexa'

The Amazon Echo 'Silver' will never happen, thanks to this Alexa update

Right now, Amazon and Best Buy are trying to help make that situation easier by offering a discounted two-pack of the Amazon Echo smart speaker. The problem is much worse with third-party devices which incorporate Alexa, but Amazon has introduced technology called Cloud-Based Wake Word Verification to make wake word detection much more accurate for these devices.

Amazon on Monday announced a new feature that improves wake-word accuracy on Alexa-powered gadgets.

United States accuses Assad of burning thousands in crematoriums
Jones presented declassified photographs showing how the military prison building was modified to create the crematorium. After last month's attack in northern Syria, Trump said the Syrians crossed "a lot of lines" for his administration.

To enable the feature, devices will need an update. They won't receive any notifications from skills that they've not allowed to send them notifications.

But businesses and developers will have to seek permission from users before they can send them notifications, Amazon said, noting developers would be able to add notifications to skills "in the coming months" before the company eventually debuts the feature to the wider public. "Users can simply ask, 'Alexa, what did I miss?" or 'Alexa, what are my notifications?' and Alexa will inform users of the latest breaking news".

Trump fuels the need for a Russia probe | Farmer
CNN said Comey is "not anxious about any tapes" Trump may have, citing an unnamed source familiar with the matter. Even before Trump's provocative tweet, the White House was scrambling to clarify why Comey was sacked .

Amazon said that when the service becomes available, it'll only work if customers opt-in.

The Washington Post, AccuWeather, Just Eat, and Life360 will be among the first to update their Alexa skills with support for notifications.

Interview with Aaron Hernandez's fiancee to air
Because Hernandez's initial appeal was still pending when he died, the conviction was vacated last week. His death has been ruled a suicide by the Worcester district attorney's office and the case closed.

Echo devices already use a similar system, which is part of why they have so few accidental wake ups. This is pretty useful as this also means that the Echo will not be ruining the ambiance of your house on its own by yelling out news all the time.
